Dr. Shahria Alam

Dr. Shahria Alam

Dr. Shahria Alam is a Full Professor of Civil Engineering and the Tier-1 Principal’s Research Chair in Resilient & Green Infrastructure at The University of British Columbia (UBC)’s Okanagan campus. He is an elected Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE). Dr. Alam is the director of the Green Construction Research & Training Center (GCRTC) and the acting director of the Materials and Manufacturing Research Institute (MMRI) at UBC. Dr. Alam is the Vice President (Technical Program) of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE). He was the past Chair of CSCE’s Engineering Mechanics and Materials Division. He received his PhD in Civil Engineering from Western University in 2008. His research interests include resilient infrastructure, smart and recycled materials and their structural engineering applications, and their performance-based design. He has published more than 500 peer-reviewed articles and technical reports in these areas. Dr. Alam has received many national and international awards, including four best paper awards and, more recently, the Killam Faculty Research Prize.


Dr. Mohammed JK Bashir

Dr. Mohammed Bashir is a globally recognized expert in environmental engineering, sustainable development and pollution control, with over 250 high-impact journal publications and an h-index of 52.He currently serves as a senior academic at the School of Engineering and Technology, CQUniversity Australia and adjunct professor at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Malaysia. His research spans key areas such as pollution control, ESG compliance, life cycle assessment, circular economy, and advanced water and wastewater treatment technologies. With over 9,800 citations, Dr. Bashir has led numerous interdisciplinary projects funded by government bodies and industry partners, aiming to bridge science with actionable solutions. His current focus includes emerging contaminants (ECs), microplastics, and resource recovery in wastewater systems. A recipient of over 20 international awards and recognized among the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University, Dr. Bashir brings a unique blend of academic excellence and practical innovation to solving global environmental challenges.


Dr. Winifred Ijomah

Dr. Winifred Ijomah is Professor in Sustainable Design and Manufacturing at the Department of Design, Manufacturing and Engineering Management (DMEM), at the University of Strathclyde in the UK. She is Founder and Director of The Scottish Institute for Remanufacturing (http://www.scot-reman.ac.uk/), a pan-Scotland expertise hub established to spearhead the Circular Economy in Scotland using product recovery. She has elements of her work incorporated in British Standards Institute, (e.g. BS 8887-220:2010- Design for manufacture, assembly, disassembly) and is member of National and International committees established to assist industry to meet international environmental legislation. She is founder of and untill April 2021 Editor-in-Chief of Springer’s Journal of Remanufacturing (https://www.springer.com/journal/13243), the first academic journal in the remanufacturing field. She established and heads the University of Strathclyde Sustainability and Remanufacturing Research Group, specialising in holistic, interdisciplinary, practitioner-based research aimed at enabling sustainable circular and Netzero manufacturing. She initiated and chaired the first International Conference on Remanufacturing (http://www.remanufacturing-conference.com/); the first international academic conference for remanufacturing; and now a biennial event running in conjunction with Rematec, the world's leading remanufacturing exhibition and trade event. Her work focuses on product end-of-life, particularly remanufacturing and spans both product and process design with a view to enhancing the potential For a circular economy. Winifred has PhD in remanufacturing, 20 years reseaerch experience in the discipline and has graduated over 18 PhD candidates as principal supervisior. Professor Ijomah is a keen STEM and Diversity and Inclusion Ambassador.


Dr. Christopher Niezrecki

Christopher Niezrecki is a Distinguished University Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He is currently the Co-Director of the Structural Dynamics and Acoustic Systems Laboratory (http://sdasl.uml.edu/), and leads the Center for Energy Innovation at UMass Lowell (www.uml.edu/energy). Dr. Niezrecki is also the Director of the NSF-Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for Wind Energy Science Technology and Research (WindSTAR). He has been directly involved in vibrations, acoustics, smart structures, controls, and renewable energy research for over 30 years, with more than 200 publications. Areas of current research include: renewable energy and hydrogen systems, wind turbine dynamics, monitoring, and inspection, structural dynamic and acoustic systems, smart structures, signal processing, structural health monitoring, optical sensing, and smart materials. In 2020 was selected as a UMass Lowell Distinguished University Professor. Funding for his research ($38M+) has been provided through grants from numerous federal and state agencies as well as industry sponsors.


Dr. Ayman Soliman Mosallam

Dr. Ayman S. Mosallam is a Professor of Structural and Earthquake Engineering, also a Professor, Materials & Manufacturing Engineering Technology and served as the Director of the UCI Structural Engineering Testing Hall at the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at University of California, Irvine (UCI). He is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and a Fellow of The International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM). He is a registered Structural Professional Engineer in the District of Colombia and has more than forty years of experience in affordable housing, smart materials, structural engineering with a particular interest in innovative sustainable building systems and green construction including three-dimensional sandwich (SCIP) panels, bamboo structures, recycled plastics, fiber-reinforced polymeric (FRP) systems, and advanced manufacturing. He is an international leading authority in the area non-conventional sustainable building systems. He is certified California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (CalOE) Safety Assessment Program Coordinator and Trainer Trainings. Dr. Mosallam is a member of ASCE Construction Institute Materials Directorate (Executive Committee) and a Control Member on the ASCE Structural Composites and Plastics Committee (SCAP). Professor Mosallam serves on the Technical Advisory Board of the International Accreditation Service (IAS). He has published over 500 technical papers, chapters, and reports on structural performance of structural systems and authored, edited and co-edited seven books in this area. He is the author of the ASCE Design Manual for FRP Composites Connections (ASCE MOP 102) and the codeveloper of the ASCE/PIC Prestandard Document on Structural Design of Pultruded FRP Composite Structures. Dr. Mosallam is the Honorary Editor-in Chief, Journal of Civil Engineering Beyond Limits (CEBEL). He has served on the editorial board of several journals including Composites: Part B Journal, Modelling in Engineering Structures, Energies, Advances in Civil Engineering, HBRC Journal, Alexandia Engineering Journal, among others. He also served as the Guest Editor for special issues on Infrastructure Applications for Composites for several journals including, Reinforced Plastics and Composites Journal, Materials and Design, Smart Structures, and many others. He is the Founder of the Egyptian Green Building Council and the developer and principal author of the first edition of the national Green Pyramid Rating System (GPRS). Professor Mosallam is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the Outstanding Research Award from the International Conference of Composites Engineering, Best Design Paper Award from Composite Institute, the Industry Impact Award from McGraw Hill, Best Paper Award from SPI, and the Outstanding Engineering Educator of Year Award from American Society of Civil Engineers, The Presidential Award of the Engineering Council, among other numerous national and international awards. He has served as a senior engineering consultant to several US governmental organizations and private corporations including: International Code Council, International Accreditation Service, Boeing Company, Flour-Daniel, Dames & Moore, ApaTech, Alpha Star Corp., US Army Corps of Engineers, US Tanks Division, Ohio Department of Transportation, Oregon Department of Transportation, New York Department of Transportation, John Wayne Airport Authority, Southern California Association of Structural Engineering, Irvine Water Ranch, Linford Corp., Sika Corp., Sigma Composites, BASF, EVG, Schanel, InsuMore, Khateeb & Alami, Al-Nakheel, Saudi Bin Laden, City Esge, and many others. Dr. Mohamed Shahin is a Professor of Geotechnical Engineering and Director of Geomechanics and Pavements at Curtin University, Australia. He received his BSc and MSc from Cairo University (Egypt) and his PhD from the University of Adelaide (Australia). He has over 30 years of academic and industrial experience with research interests spanning Computational Geomechanics, Ground Improvement and Transportation Geotechnics. Professor Shahin is an Elected Fellow Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and Engineers Australia. He serves as Editor and Associate Editor for several international Journals and is a Board Member of multiple international societies. Professor Shahin is recognized as a leading expert listed in the top 1% of Highly Cited Researchers in Engineering by Web of Science, top 2% of World Scientists by Stanford University Ranking, top 0.5% of the Worldwide Scholars by ScholarGPS and Oceania's top 100 Civil Engineering Scientists by AD Scientific Index. Dr. Hai-Sui Yu

Dr. Hai-Sui Yu is Professor of Geotechnical Engineering and Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Leeds, UK, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2011. Professor Yu worked at the University of Newcastle, Australia from 1990-2000 before taking up the foundation Professorship of Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Nottingham in 2001, where he founded the Nottingham Centre for Geomechanics (NCG). He also served as Head of the School of Civil Engineering, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor there. Professor Yu’s main research activities have focused on theoretical and computational geomechanics, constitutive modelling, in-situ soil testing, and pavement & railway geotechnics. Professor Yu is very active in professional activities and services and is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Geomechanics and Geoengineering. He has been awarded many prestigious international medals and prizes for his research work, which include the British Geotechnical Association Medal for 2015, the Outstanding Contributions Medal of the International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics (IACMAG) in 2014, the Chandra Desai Medal of IACMAG in 2008, the first James K Mitchell Lecture of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering in 2004, Shamsher Prakash Foundation’s Research Award in 2003, the Institution of Civil Engineers’ highest research paper award, the Telford Medal, in 2000, and Australian Geomechanics Society’s Trollope Medal in 1998.


Dr. Xiaodong Liang

Prof. Xiaodong Liang received her Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, in 2013. She is currently a Full Professor and Canada Research Chair in Technology Solutions for Energy Security in Remote, Northern, and Indigenous Communities with the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada. Dr. Liang’s research interests include power systems, renewable energy, and electric machines, and she has published more than 300 peer-reviewed publications. She is a Fellow of IEEE and IET, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, and Co-Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering. She also serves as Member-at-Large at the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) Executive Board.

Dr. Shideh Dashti is an Associate Professor in the Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering Program at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her in geotechnical engineering and geomechanics, focuses on the influence of extreme climatic and seismic events on interacting soil-foundation-structure systems and geotechnical infrastructure. Dr. Dashti's goal is to help train engineers to be more globally-engaged in research and practice, through engaging them in internationally relevant projects and collaborating with experts in other countries and disciplines. She also currently serves as the Associate Chair for Administration in the department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering at the Univeristy of Colorado Boulder.


Dr. Sajal K. Das

Dr. Sajal K. Das is the Research Fellow in the Faculty of Science, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia. Before joining QUT, Dr. Das served as the Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology, Bangladesh. He earned his Ph.D. degree from the University of New South Wales, Australia in 2014 and later joined National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore as a Research Engineer. He was also a Visiting Academic at the University of Newcastle, Australia, and a Faculty Member of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of American International University-Bangladesh. Dr. Das is currently the Editorial Member of Future Energy Journal and Associate Editor of Frontiers in Smart Grid. He also served as the Associate Editor of IET Renewable Power Generation and Guest Editor in Energies and Sustainability. He presented his work as the Keynote Speaker in a number of conferences and workshops and successfully organized the IEEE 2024 International Conference on Power, Electrical, Electronics and Industry Applications as the Conference Secretary and IEEE 2021 International Conference on Automation, Control and Mechatronics for Industry 4.0 (ACMI 2021) as the Organizing Chair. He received the Best Paper award as coauthor in IEEE PEEIACON 2019 and listed in the top 0.5% of all scholars worldwide according to the 2024 ScholarGPS rankings. Dr. Das is particularly interested to discover the new challenges and find novel solutions to energy transition for net zero in the context of cyber-physical power system. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and his Google Scholar citation counts over 4900.
